Today my neighborhood mockingbird flew into my garage and sang for me. He comes every now and then to perch on my white tub that holds my garden tool. He always arrives on a day when I might need a special bit of a lift. Today I was finally ready to take my taxes to my trusted AARP accountants, opened the big garage door, turned back into the kitchen to grab my sunglasses, and then I heard his sweet song. He always sings Oriole and Cardinal for me, my favorite UpNorthy bird songs. Once I even heard him sing the Robin's song, which amazed me because I never see Robins here. They don't live in Southern Florida. That day I asked him how long a road trip he'd been on! Yes, I talk to him, never scares him off.
When I step closer to him, he always sings one extra long song for me, then leaves. Magical. Today of all days, magical. With those crappy tax forms beside me, I actually drove off with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
Life can be good, exceedingly good.
